Brahatyadi kwath is an Ayurvedic medicine used in treating diseases of urinary system. It is in herbal decoction form. It is also available in the form of Kashayam tablet form. This medicine is widely used in Kerala Ayurveda practice.

Brahatyadi kwath reduces vata and pitta doshas and acts as a rejuvenator to uro-genital system. It is also a hepato protective, nephro- protective, anti cancerous and lithotrophic drug.

  1. Anti-inflammatory: Reducing inflammation by acting on body mechanisms.
  2. Antiseptic: Capable of preventing infection by inhibiting the growth of infectious agents.
  3. Antiurolithic: Dissolving or preventing the formation of calculi in the kidneys, ureters, or bladder.
  4. Diuretic: Promoting excretion of urine/agent that increases the amount of urine excreted.


15ml Kashayam + 60 ml warm water twice a day , one hour before meal or as directed by the physician.

Anupana (co – drink):

  • Warm water


  • Brihati (Solanum indicum)
  • Prishniparni (Uraria picta)
  • Shalaparni (Desmodium gangeticum)
  • Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris)

Brahatyadi kwath works the best with :

  1. Sukumaram kashayam in BPH
  2. Chandraprabha vati gulika in UTI, BPH and cyctitis.
  3. Punarnavadi kashayam in swelling/oedema.


  1. It is completely safe to take this medicine in recommended doses.
  2. There are no known side-effects of medicine.
  3. It can be safely taken during breastfeeding.
  4. Do not take any medicine during pregnancy without consulting doctor.
